One of the world’s oldest cities, Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece. The city is well known for its classical heritage and ancient monuments including the famous Parthenon, as well as two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the medieval Daphni Monastery and the well-known Acropolis. Besides these magnificent monuments, the city has many more Roman, Byzantine and Ottomon monuments on display and of interest to visitors.
The city and its outskirts sprawl around a series of hills, the tallest being Lycabettus, which offers a view of the city and surrounding areas. Many villas in the Athens area are available to tourists, with all the necessary facilities and access to all the attractions in the area.
The city offers much in the way of culture with 148 theatrical stages on offer, more than any other city in the world. The Athens Concert Hall offers musical events and those interested in the stars and planets can visit the Athens Planetarium, which is apparently one of the largest digital planetariums in the world.
The wide-ranging cuisine of Athens offers popular delicacies like tiropitas (flaky cheese-filled pastries), moussaka and kabobs, including the famous souvlaki, the most popular fast food of Greece.
Athens and its surrounding areas enjoy a sub-tropical, Mediterranean climate, with hot and dry summers and mild winters with moderate rainfall making it a destination to enjoy staying in Athens area villas at almost any time of year.
