The largest, and most populous, of the Greek Islands, Crete has much to offer the visitor. From the Blue Flag beaches lined with waving palm trees, through to inland landscapes of mountains and valleys, lakes and rivers, this is a wonderfully scenic island. The island offers a selection of Crete villas at the coast or situated in inland areas, giving a range of locations and views.
Crete, once the centre of the Minoan civilization, also offers much in the way of the history and unique culture of the Greek people. The capital, and also the largest city of the island, is Heraklion, where much of the culture and history can be explored, along with an excellent range of shopping and dining opportunities.
In all areas of the island, restaurants offer the best in Cretan cuisine, mostly consisting of natural products of the island, with vegetables, dairy products, poultry and fresh fish the main ingredients, all washed down with a glass of the excellent Cretan wine.
With the island lying between the Mediterranean and North African climatic zones, staying in a villa in Crete is a great experience any time of year. The weather ranges from fairly hot and humid summers through to mild winters. While the mountains may see some snow during the winter months, this only adds to the beauty of the scenery, with low-lying areas staying at a comfortable temperature, perfect for that holiday break.
