The Ionian Islands are a chain of islands found off the western coast of mainland Greece, slightly more northern than some of the other Greek Islands. This results in them having a more temperate climate which helps boost their popularity with holidaymakers who perhaps want to avoid the scorching summer temperatures found in other parts of Greece.

Out of the main holiday islands Corfu sits furthest north and has something for everyone, with a mix of highly popular tourist style resorts in the north and plenty of cultural highlights such as museums and art galleries if that is what you want.

In the middle of the Ionian Islands is Lefkas Island. Technically it is actually connected to the mainland via a causeway and bridge, but many still class it as its own island.

Under Lefkas comes the beautiful island of Kefalonia, made famous by Captain Corelli and his mandolin, Kefalonia could easily be mistaken for a magical Caribbean island. Full of exotic beaches and gorgeous sea views.

Zakynthos Island can be found in the southern part of the Ionian Island chain and it doesn’t disappoint. Like many of the Greek Islands, the scenery and landscape of Zakynthos is unbelievable, a real paradise on Earth.
