The Cycladic Islands or Cyclades in Greece is a group of islands located to the south east of Athens and roughly North of the Island of Crete. Whilst it is made up of many islands only a small number of them are inhabited, which many actually being the tops of underwater mountain ranges.
The term Cyclades literally means encircling islands and this was given to them as they roughly all circle the island of Dilos which features in mythological tales of Greece as the supposed birthplace of gods Apollo and Artemis. As you might expect the islands are rich in ancient ruins with many popular sites to explore.
If you’re looking for a Greek holiday adventure then the Cyclades is a great area to consider. The hot summer climate combined with very mild winter months make them an all year round destination. The nightlife scene found on the island of Mykonos is well known and it becomes a must visit for summer festivals.
